In Europe, from the twelfth to the seventeenth centuries, the corporate organization of labor and of town-market communities developed side-by-side with the ideals of personal liberty, market freedom, and legal equality. Both affected the ideology of the European commune and city-state in specific and discernible ways. Self-governing labor organizations and civil freedom developed together as coherent practices. The values of mutual aid and craft honor on the one hand, and of personal freedom and legal equality on the other, formed the moral infrastructure of our civilization. Alternate ideals balanced, harmonized, and even cross-fertilized one another-as in the principle of freedom of association.

Contrary to preconceptions, however, corporate values were seldom expressed philosophically in the Middle Ages. Political theory and the world of learning from the start emphasized liberal values. It was only after the Reformation that guild and communal values found expression in political theory. Even then only a few philosophers acknowledged that solidarity and exchange-the poles around which the values of guild and civil society, respectively, rotate-are not opposites but complementary, and attempted to weave these together into a texture as tough and complex as that of urban society itself. �

The Enlightenment and industrialization led to an apotheosis of liberal values. Guilds disappeared and were only in part replaced by labor unions; the values of market exchange have since been in the ascendant-though Hegel, Durkheim, and more recently, advocates of liberal corporatism maintain the possibility of a symbiosis between corporate and liberal values. In Guild and State there emerges an alternative history of political thought, which will be fascinating to the general as well as the specialist reader.

Powerful material so you can rise to a higher level of success and fulfillment

This is an extraordinary book. Why? It's the combined effort of two highly intelligent men who truly want to help you take your life to a higher level of success and fulfillment. On page 11, co-author Henry Bono reveals: "A Motivational Imperative is a central, governing statement of intent for one's life. It brings into alignment the conscious and subconscious minds for the purpose of creating one's greatest possible fulfillment, one's destiny, one's ultimate concern. . . It is a well-designed, powerful, and focused statement of "motive" behind one's movement through life. Therefore, it influences and impacts every aspect of life, and magnetizes one towards his or her intended destiny."

Your Motivational Imperative can give you a new surge of power to make tremendous progress in life.

On page 54, Henry Bono suggests we focus on an empowering question: "Where is my inspired action?"

On page 69, co-author Dantalion Jones discusses the Motivational Imperative Construct. He uses a diagram as an illustration. He writes: "Each successive level going up controls all below it. So, Thoughts and Emotions control Actions and Behaviors. Beliefs control Thoughts and Emotions, Values control Beliefs and, at the top is Identity which controls all the things below it."

Jones goes on to help you get access to your subconscious mind and even helps you to dig deep with a process "Values Elicitation" (page 81).

On page 116, Jones leads you through a process so you can get the power of your feelings aligned with your Motivational Imperative.

The material in this book is powerful when a reader takes action. As a sidenote: some of the material is controversial. You may not agree with all of the material but you'll find some truly useful and life-changing processes. Take action. Success and fulfillment can be yours.

It is Imperative that you summon the motivation to get this book!

Ralph Waldo Emerson observed that most men lead lives of quiet desperation. It doesn't have to be that way.

"Follow your dreams," is the simple advice given by graduation speakers and self-help mavens. What we seldom stop to consider is: Is this dream worth pursuing? Can I find a better dream? Where do I find the passion to fuel my dream?

Dreams and schemes tend to remain in the realm of idle fantasies because most of us haven't stopped to think about these questions. We live our lives of quiet desperation and indulge these fantasies as occasional respite.

But turning your dream into a reality isn't a matter of luck or happenstance. The life you have right now is just that: a matter of luck and happenstance. We are taught that achieving a dream is hard work. It isn't. It is just thoughtful, purposeful work. What's hard is living with the unfulfilled dream.

This book first helps you to think about what you want, which is an important point left out of the graduation speeches. Decide what you want, and consider the steps to getting what you want. Once this important work is done, then get your subconscious on board so that your actions and thoughts pull toward what you want.

Once you have done this for yourself, you can help others in finding their MI's, or even install MI's for achievement in your children or students.

And then maybe we can put ol' Ralph to rest.

Let me start with what I liked, first there is a lot of good information in this book. It takes goal setting to a higher level. That is what Motivational Imperative(MI) is. There is a technique put forth that I know several secret societies use to help motivate it's members.That really makes this book excellent. Part I didn't care for is the book winds into a hypnotherapy session. Self-Hypnosis to lock in your MI part was fine but the book goes into how to install an MI into another person. If a person is a practising hypnotherapist I think the book is fine but for someone with no experience to use the power disclosed is dangerous. In general I would recommend you read the first 85% of the book and take it to heart. If you are NOT a hypnotherapist then stop reading after that point.

A must have book to analyize problems with water treatment.

This book is a need item to help trouble shoot problems with boiler, DA tanks, condensate return tanks,pumps, and piping. If you can see the problem, you will probably see a picture of the problem in this book along with what caused it...and in color 95 percent of the time. It has been a real life saver, literlly. You gotta have this book even if you only use it once..it could save your life, or your building/s. Try it ..you will like it. My instructor in 2 grade class was so impressed it got one.

Built as a "crawler" and equipped with a 6-cylinder, water-cooled engine, the M4 could travel cross-country through swamps and sand, or on the highway at speeds up to 33 mph. Over 5,500 M4s were built between 1942 and 1945, with many remaining in service into the 1960s. Created in 1943, this official TM 9-785 Technical Manual reveals a great deal about the M4's design and capabilities. Intended as a manual for those charged with operation and maintenance, this manual shows many aspects of its engine, cooling, power, drive train and other systems. Originally labeled restricted, this manual was declassified long ago and is here reprinted in book form. Care has been taken to preserve the integrity of the text.

Rob Sheppard is a long-time photographer, respected writer, internationally known speaker and workshop leader, and was the long-time editor of the prestigious Outdoor Photographer magazine. He was also one of the principals who started Digital Photo (formerly PCPhoto) magazine over a decade ago to bring the digital world to photographers on their terms. Rob has served as the group editorial director of all Werner Publication photo magazines (Digital Photo, Outdoor Photographer, and Digital Photo Pro) and has written hundreds of articles about photography and nature, plus a wide range of books. His photography has been published in many magazines, ranging from National Geographic to The Farmer to, of course, Outdoor Photographer and Digital Photo. very nice, but...

This is a beautiful book, very nicely done. But, having already read quite a bit about color management and inkjet printing, I was hoping for more specific technical details. The author makes many statements which I'm sure are true (I do believe he knows what he's talking about), but aren't illustrated with examples. For example, he says 200 to 360 ppi is the ideal range when sizing an image for printing, and that going over 360 can actually be detrimental. Ok -- how about an example to show exactly what the effect would be? Yes, I can spend the time (and cost) to run my own tests to see, but the book should have done that for me.

FAR from a "complete" guide

I agree with several of the other reviewers - this book is well done but the title is misleading. In my opinion a >complete< guide to Epson should take you through the >complete< process of color digital printing on Epson printers and be littered with actual examples, good and bad, of all the resolution, ink type, paper type, printer model and color management option combinations that produce a digital color print. My copy is going back.

Complete Crap - Save Your Money

I thought that having Epson's name on the front cover meant this would be a fairly credible book on printing techniques. Guess again. It's filled with many beautiful photos, some better than others, but most have absolutely nothing to do with the text or have any instructional value. They're obviously used simply as pretty space filler. Virtually all space that does have text is devoted to redundant platitudes and generalities, and if you try and suffer through the entire book (as I did) you'll find yourself getting madder and madder that there's no substance to it at all. Even if you wait to the very end. Shame on Epson for having their name on the front cover.
